Counselor – Youth Sailing
Great Pond Yacht Club is excited to announce that the Town of Belgrade and Center for All Seasons will be hosting the Great Pond Community Youth Sailing Program. The program consists of one-week half-day instruction and is available for six weeks during the summer starting July 1. We are planning on two sessions per day with 8-12 year-olds in the morning session and 12 to 17 in the afternoons.

Love the outdoors and working with kids? Spend your days teaching sailing in the picturesque town of Belgrade enjoying the beauty of Great Pond! Hosted at the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons, GPYC in concert with the Town of Belgrade expects to be able to help provide sailing access to central Maine. The program’s focus is to introduce children to the love of sailing.
We are looking for an instructor who is enthusiastic, reliable, and professional. The season begins July 7th and ends August 22nd. There’s a possibility to extend the season by an additional week. Possible housing arrangements may be available.
Responsibilities include:
- Report to the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons daily from 9:30am-5:30pm
- Planning lessons and running class from 10:00am 5:00pm from Monday-Friday for 6 one-week sessions.
- Work with the program director to implement curriculums throughout the summer.
- Run morning RS Terra and afternoon 420 classes (class size: 6 sailors).
- Provide general maintenance of sailboats and the powerboat.
- Time commitment is ~40 hours/week for the duration of the season.
- Assist setting up and breaking down the sailing area before and after the season.
The successful applicant will:
- Have a strong background in dinghy sailing.
- Be organized and self driven.
- Enjoy the joys and challenges of working with children.
- Be capable of general boat maintenance.
- Pass a background check.
- Be competent in operating a power boat.
- Have passed an approved boating safety class and will have a Boating Safety Education Card, as required by law for anyone born on or after January 1, 1999.
- Have current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Level 1 US Sailing certification is required.
