After two years of planning, scheming, organizing, and fundraising, members of the Great Pond Yacht Club gathered Sunday, July 20, 2014, to raise a glass of sparkling cider and christen a fleet of Optimists that will set sail Monday morning under a brand new Youth Sailing program.
SailMaine instructor Sarah Wineberg will train nearly 40 new sailors in the sport we all love so much. The program will train six kids at a time with morning and afternoon sessions. The Town of Belgrade has generously offered to host the program for the next four weeks at the Center for All Seasons.
We are very excited to introduce instructor Sarah Wineberg. Sarah grew up in Jamestown, Rhode Island, and recently graduated from the College of the Atlantic. She knows a ton about sailing and marine ecology. When she’s not teaching sailing, Sarah farms oysters in the Damariscotta River. Her enthusiasm for sailing is contagious, and we know she’ll make an excellent ambassador for the sport and for the club. If you see Sarah cruising by in the chase boat, give her a wave and introduce yourself.
